Like in memoQ, Studio, CafeTran, etc.Ī while back I thought I had figured it out, with the help of the Help manual and some helpful tips from Wf staff, but even THEN it didn't work because I was stupid enough to close the program bac, and upon reopening it my so-called confirmed statuses had all disappeared. There are all kind of different colours (purple, orange, etc.), but no matter how hard I try where I look I can't figure out an easy way to quickly move through the segments, confirming them, and using a simple shortcut to jump down the grid to the next unconfirmed segment. What I mean is this: how on earth can you simply confirm a finished segment and jump to the next unconfirmed segment (with a keyboard shortcut)?

And one thing I can never quite get my head around is how to actually translate with Wordfast Pro 5. Every year or so I try out various Wordfast products, just for the hell of it. I have used pretty much every single CAT tool under the sun, and yet it is still possible to be surprised. All buttons that used to be on the ribbon, are now on the the main screen, visually closer to the parts of the screen where they apply. I don't see any mention of this on the release notes page, but: they've removed the ribbon on the Quick Tools (there is no option to re-enable it). The "extract uniques" and "populate uniques" options are on two separate tabs and not a single tab, even though they are two steps of the same feature. They also added TransCheck and Segment Changes to the quick tools, where it should have been from the beginning (although you can still use those features in the Project Files view on a per-file basis). It took me a while to find it, but here it is:Įssentially, they've added an "extract uniques" feature to the quick tools, you can now use MT during pre-translation, and there is an extra table filter to show only unique segments. Why does WFP autosave when a crash occurs and not every, say 5/10+ minutes like MemoQ 9, DVX, Cafetran, Swordfish do (Studio 2019 apparently acts like WFP, it autosaves on the occurrence of a crash)? As most software today autosave, I have lost the reflex to CTLR+S/CMD+S at regular intervals. Post title: Progress bar loading data, please wait. I wonder under what circumstances WFP5 *does* autosave. On reopening WF a message appears saying that the changes had been saved, and that's fine.
Or perform the process in another, better tool temporarily (personally, I don't do spellchecking inside a CAT tool - instead, I export to DOC and then spellcheck the DOC file, and then repeat the edits in the CAT tool).Īs nothing happened I killed the process. If a certain process leaves your file unsaved for a long time, rather interrupt the process often than let it run to the end, if you can't afford to lose changes. I've had tools crash on me for no apparent reason, with all work lost up to the last time that I had manually saved. You may be angry at WFP5 but the same thing would have been true if you had used another CAT tool and for some reason the tool decided to hang.
This means that none of your edits are saved unless you have manually saved the file some time in the middle of the process. Also, AFAIK, WFP5 does not write a changed segment to the TM unless you specifically use a shortcut (or a procedure) that updates the TM.
